Quotes: Decisions

Inspirational Quotes

A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided.

7 tips for reaching your dream goal

7 tips for reaching your dream goal

Aries are supposedly competitive – ‘Bah humbug! I’m not!” or so I thought. On reflection I just don’t do anything I’m not good at. Is that just me not competing with my own competitive self for fear of failing and having my ego say “I told you so?”

I think my ego is bigger than I give it credit for. It rules me unconsciously and since my journey of self-discovery began about 5 years back I’ve learnt more and more about it. It’s the little voice in my head – the one we all have. Sometimes it makes me think something, and sometimes it makes me do something but mostly it prefers aversion tactics. It’s the latter that I need concern myself with as this non-action prevents me from moving forward.

I’m a novice writer and yet one of my Big Sexy Bodacious Goals is to have a published book – but it’s not just a published book that I want. I want my book to change lives everywhere. I see it as my legacy to my daughter and the world.

But have I started this life changing book? No.

Have I attended a writing class? No.

What have I done in taking steps towards this goal of mine other than just think about it? Not as much as I would like. How am I to reach my dream if the little Voice in my head keeps me procrastinating on my dream?

Although, I must mention that it has been at the forefront of my mind recently, and in writing my previous post on Wealth Profiles I had an epiphany: “I am a creator, and I need to be writing more.”

On top of this, I have been meeting writers lately. Not only writers, but writers that have self published and writers that took a leap of faith to follow their dreams. Amazing how the universe brings us teachers and shows us the way. I’m so grateful I was able to see the messages. In today’s age, there is no reason for me to be rejected by a publisher as I can do it all myself. There is no longer a reason to have anyone else limit my dream. I’m the only one that stands between me and my dream.

“If you want to limit yourself that’s fine, just don’t let anyone else do it for you.”

I met some inspirational women this weekend. Mandy de Waal gave the introductory talk at the blogging workshop I attended at 24.com and Sam Wilson, the Über cool Editor of Women24.com. Mandy spent 20 years in a career that she was super good at, but did not enjoy. Sam said she spent 7 odd years as a lawyer before realising that what she really wanted to be doing was writing. And both of them have done it and have become super successful at it. As I mentioned, inspirational to me.

So here are my 7 steps for realising a dream goal:

1. Write it down!

 2. Visualise it.

 3. Overcome limiting beliefs.

 4. Affirm it.

5. Share it.

6. Take action.

7. Get a mentor/coach

 1 Write it down

I have not only written it down for me. I have blogged about it now. So I’ve put it out to wider community that this is what I want to do. Writing crystalises thought. When we write something down we make more connections to the idea.

“Writing crystalises thought.”

2 Visualise it (and re-programme)

In the visualisation you need to imagine the goal already achieved. Ask yourself, “How will I know I have it?” “What does your success look like?” Use all your senses when you do your visualization. Visual – what do you see. Auditory – what do you hear. Kinesthetic – what do you feel/touch (both physically & emotionally), Gustatory – what can you taste, Olfactory – what can you smell.

Once you have your ‘story’ (your visualization) – imagine it every day. For at least 21 days. Then let it go and you’ll be amazed at the opportunities that come your way that will support you on your journey (see step 6). I’ve done this successfully with other goals.

So I have a picture in my mind of the cover of my book, with 5 million copies sold in a badge on the cover. In my visualization I see myself being honoured at an event. I can see everything about the event with posters of my book decorating the stage. I can hear the congratulations, feel the pride, excitement, anticipation, touch the satin dress I’m wearing, taste the champagne, feel the bubbles on my tongue, smell perfume of the people congratulating and hugging me. This is just a snapshot of my visualisation but you get the idea.

Your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined so this is a powerful technique.”

3 Overcome limiting beliefs

Look for evidence that your belief is unfounded. Look for evidence where you have successfully done it before, or where others or your mentors have done it. Then affirm the evidence with a new belief. “Replace the limiting belief with a belief that you do want.”

4 Affirm it

“Be the change you want to see in the world” – Ghandi

“I am a successful published writer.” “My books are sought out and available all over the world.” “I write stories others want to read.” “Writing comes easily to me”.

Affirmations are a powerful message to your unconscious mind. They can be used to replace your limiting beliefs. If I kept thinking “No-one wants to read my work.” No-one would. If I say and think the affirmations above I am giving my ego new beliefs to react to. Ones that I choose to support my goal.

5 Share it

“Turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones.”

When we share our dreams we take the chance that others will poo poo our ideas and shoot them down. I know that when I mentioned to my mum that I wanted to write she said, “Do you know how difficult it is for writers in South Africa?” This is her limiting belief. And there is a chance that I had this belief too. In fact, years ago I tried to get a children’s story I had written published, the publishers told me, “No matter how good your story is, we are not interested. We only publish one children’s title a year from a known author.”

Aren’t I glad I live in the age of information and I can self-publish – it’s all a few clicks away on the internet!

Sharing your dream with someone you trust can be good. They play the devil’s advocate and their objections to the idea will give you feedback on potential stumbling blocks you could face en route to your dream. Once you have these stumbling blocks, however, you can plan for them and turn them into stepping stones.

6 Take Action

Once you’ve been doing your visualisation you will notice many more opportunities available to you. Just like when you are thinking of buying a new silver Golf, suddenly you notice every other car is a silver Golf. Or if you or a friend is pregnant, you notice how many others are pregnant too. That car, those pregnant ladies were always there, but now they are within your consciousness you notice them. It is the same with your visualised dream – You are far more aware of the opportunities that support you towards this dream. Action could be making a phone call, researching on the internet, meeting people that can help, or taking a course. Or in my case, actually starting to write!

“The Law of Attraction works best when we take Action towards our goal. The more action we take, the more we attract, the more we attract, the more action we take. This causes traction that moves us towards our goal.”

7 Get a Mentor and or coach

Who is already doing what you want to be doing? Can they be your mentor? Ask them. What do you do if you want to mentor someone who lives far away or someone you don’t know? You can mentor them from afar. You can research them on the internet, read books or articles written by them or about them. They don’t necessarily need to be someone you meet with regularly, but someone you can learn from. With technology you can use Skype to connect with them, join their social or business networks, read their blogs… etc There are many ways to learn from others that are already doing what you want to be doing.

Getting a coach is another way to help you reach your goals. Coaches help coachees move from where they are now to where they want to be.

“They champion your dreams, help you overcome obstacles and keep you moving forward to your goals.”

Survey – What are your top 5 job motivators?

Do you know what motivates you?  This is an interesting excercise to do for yourself.  Many people think they work for money and of course we do, however, money is not always our top motivator.  Would you work for a huge salary if the company you worked at compromised your values? What if there was no career advancement or personal development?  Would you stay in the same position just for the money? Have a look at the list below and work out yours.

What would motivate you to perform at your best from the following list?

  • Interesting work & job satisfaction
  • Interpersonal relationships – working with people
  • Self development and continual learning
  • Working Conditions & flexibility
  • Appreciation
  • Remuneration – salary and benefits
  • Recognition
  • Fairness
  • Work security
  • Loyalty
  • Career growth
  • Empathy to employees
  • Status
  • Supervision

Arrange the following 14 motivators in order of importance. 1 = the most important motivator and 14 = the least important motivator.  I would love to hear what your top 5 are.

Definition of Motivation from dictionary.com

Motivation – noun: the psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose and direction to behavior; “we did not understand his motivation”; “he acted with the best of motives”

What’s your purpose

I attended an InterNations networking event in Cape Town this week.  I’m pretty new to attending these types of meetings but what I noticed is that we all asked, “What business are you in?” Afterall, the intention of InterNations is connect global minds and for them to network and share business opportunities.

Then I met Lelemba, a beautiful lady from Zambia who responded, “I make woman beautiful!”

And I thought, wow… she is living her purpose.  Instead of saying I’m a Beautician, she is stating how she expresses her purpose through her career.

This got me thinking about my life purpose which is written as a paragraph and I thought how could I sum it up to share with people what it is in a dyamic statement like Lelemba’s?

Our purpose should be “Who we are to be and not what we are to do”

So now when people ask me what it is I do, I respond,

”I guide people to unleash their potential!”

Are you seeking your purpose?  One of my workshops “Bee You” helps people uncover their true purpose and find their authentic selves.  It’s a journey of self discovery that is fun and creative.

Yes we can!

I love Obama’s slogan.  It is an awesome example of a positive affirmation.

We can hop on the proverbial bandwagon and adopt it in our own lives.  So often our limiting beliefs find supporting evidence that “we can’t”, “we don’t have the time…”, “we don’t have the money…” etc etc

But “We Can!”  Yes, we most definitely can!

Just standing up straight, shoulders back, head up and saying, “Yes I can!” makes me feel good.

Try it. Go on.

Who cares who is watching.  Do it now… altogether…

 ”Yes I can!”

If you would like more info on affirmations, please let me know and I’ll email you some info that you may find useful.

Be quiet little Voice

I’ve had an awesome day today, for many reasons but the one I wanted to share, was a breakthrough I discovered about myself.

The Background

I received an email from a writer who had been on my website and mailed me about an article they were writing and asked if I’d be able to add input.  We arranged the call time and I was merrily excited to be adding value, when she gave me a little background and asked for my “expert” advice.

 The Event

At the mention of the word ‘expert’ all thoughts left my head as I fumbled to find them! Hellooooo! Help!

 Say what?

“Yes”, the little voice in my head mocked me, “She’s looking for an expert.”

Felt like a blubbering idiot as I had a two part conversation with the writer and quieting Him, (who shall not be named), while trying to say what I wanted to say in the most succinct fashion.

She seemed happy and grateful for my contribution and said she would send me a copy of the article once she was done.  Whew!

So perhaps I did manage to say what I wanted to say? Perhaps it was just jumbled in my head?

The Post-Call Reflection

”Why did I feel like that?” “Where did that blubbering come from?”

Could this just be my own perception? Have I not considered that over time I’ve become an expert at what I do?

And then it dawned on me.  My little mocking voice was showing me a limiting belief I had about myself.  “Had” not “have”, as now that I recognise it, it’s the last time I let it talk to me like that again.

I grew up with “Children should be seen and not heard”.  How many of you have heard that?  Our opinions didn’t count.  As an adult I’ve overcome many of my preconceptions surrounding providing my opinion and I’ll share them freely now.

But an expert?  Hell yes I am!  I am helping others unleash their potential and I’m definitely an expert at that!

 What a breakthrough!

I have new evidence for myself that my expert opinion counts.  In fact, I gave myself permission to acknowledge all the other evidence I have that proves I’m an expert at many things.  So to the little Voice in my head… your throne is once again usurped!

Financial Savvy for the kids

Last night, my daughter’s school hosted a Festive Market at their Carols by Candlelight.  Tash and I had great fun creating cards, decorated notebooks and beaded trinkets.  We were only given one hour to sell our goodies before the service, so not much time to reap the financial rewards for the days of effort we put in.  We had some fair sales in the provided time and lots of compliments too!

What’s your life’s purpose: Lessons from Bees part I

“What on earth does a honeybee have to do with finding my life purpose?” I hear you ask.

 A valid question!

Well to explain the whole story would take a workshop, however, I can say there is much we can learn from nature’s little pollinators.

 Just take pollination…

Just what happens when the bee visits hundreds of flowers each day?  They collect the superior pollen in their pollen baskets on their knees (The bees knees), which is used in the hive to make bee bread to feed them.  In collecting the pollen they spread the overflow to other flowers in their network area allowing for pollination to occur from male to female flowers.

Pollination is imperative for Mother Nature.  Many farmers hire hives from beekeepers each year to pollinate their orchards to ensure the trees bear good fruit.

 Everyone wins in pollination

The bee’s win as it ensures there are always flowers to collect pollen and nectar.  They can then make honey in the hive and the hive thrives.  The farmers win as their farms are pollinated.  Mother nature wins as flowers are continually pollinated.  We win as we eat the fruits of their labour and we enjoy the sweet honey & use the propolis they produce.  It is a win win situation for all involved.  We are all involved and reap the benefits of the pollinating network.

So how does this apply to our lives?

In order to live our life’s purpose we need people to share it, to witness it, to benefit from it.  Our life’s purpose or put another way, our life’s story is the legacy we have.  Our reason for being here.  Our purpose provides us with our authentic truth – the reason we exist in this time and space.

Once we know our life purpose and live it we need to share our story. In most cases, we need people to help us live out or express our purpose.  We do this in many ways:

  • through our work,
  • through giving back to the community,
  • through being good friends,
  • through being part of a family,
  • through the creation of new ideas and opportunities,
  • through being true to authentic self,
  • through taking care of ourselves,
  • through teaching, leading, caring etc for others,
  • through protecting our environment,
  • through giving back to the world.

I’m sure you can think of more!

This takes the form of leveraging resources so others may share our story, and as any good networker will tell you, networking is about connecting with others and adding value to all involved – win win for everyone – or as we call it… Pollination.

 Are you ready…

… to start pollinating your purpose through the expression of your dreams & undiscovered possibilities?

Quote: Change, Transformation, Inner reflection

Inspirational Quote

To be a sage means that when you look around you, you see only beauty. You will come to understand how everything you experience is a projection of your inner landscape or dream. This means that nothing ever happens to you, since you’re the creator of each event and incident in your life. So you never need to fix anything in the outer world – if you want to transform some circumstance that appears to be outside of yourself, you just need to own it and change it within!”**

Do you feel….

You aren’t getting the results you want?

Living in limbo – the fear is just in our head

Life is too short to live in Limbo. What are you waiting for? Is fear holding you back from living? What’s keeping you from following your dreams?

Five years ago, my life changed. Drastically.  I found a lump in my breast bigger than a golf ball, that had not been there the month before.  Well, it probably was, just smaller & not detectable.  Did you know that cancer cells can multiply from every 292 days to every 3 days – or something like that?  I had the latter, very agressive.  But I’m getting ahead of myself a bit.

I wanted to chat about the Limbo part….

From the the time I felt the lump through to the actual breast cancer diagnosis I visited Groote Schuur ’s clinic, a general surgeon, a couple of radiologists, an oncologist & several pathology labs over a period of FOREVER ……… well that’s what 3 days felt like back then.  And that’s the Limbo period – the waiting!

Have you ever experienced that kind of waiting?  Waiting for the inevitable, thinking the worst possible case scenario?  Even though everyone I spoke to in those few days assured me I was far too young to have breast cancer & it was probably just a cyst….. the waiting drives you nearly insane.  You begin to contemplate your mortality, you have fears you never knew you had and you feel numb, then hysterical, then numb, then the fear again.  Read More…

Attraction: Attract, Action, Traction

As long as you are moving forward, you are going the right way.

Some days need baby steps, other days leaps of faith.

The most important thing to know is that doing something about your dreams is more powerful than just thinking about it.   The thinking (dreaming/visualisation) is of course important, it’s what happens after that, the moving forward that is paramount.

Here’s an inspirational video to remind you that quitting is not an option.

Once you have visualised your goal, using all your senses, you begin to attract opportunities.  As these opportunities present themselves you take action towards them.  That’s when traction happens…

….it becomes easier to move when you are already moving.

Quote: Self Worth

Inspirational Quote

“But what if I should discover that the very enemy himself is within me, that I myself am the enemy that must be loved… What then?”

Carl Gustav Jung

True worth can never be diminished. Know your true wealth.

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?” Hands started going up.

He said, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.”
He proceeded to crumple the $20 dollar bill up. He then asked, “Who still wants it?”

Still the hands were up in the air. “Well”, he replied, “What if I do this?”  And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. “Now who still wants it?” Still the hands went into the air.

“My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson”, he said, “No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.”

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless…. and especially to those who love you.

The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or whom we know, but by WHO WE ARE.

What value do you give yourself?

Do you equate your value to your perception of success?  Is your success measured by how wealthy you are?  What does wealthy mean to you?  Personally, I love Roger Hamilton’s definition of wealthy. In this video he explains the wealth paradox.  Enjoy!

You need L U C K to be wealthy

Key to wealth – Roger Hamilton

Location Understanding Connections Knowledge

When you have L U C K and you’re in your flow, combined with your deams and passions, there can only be one result:

You’ll have YOUR key to wealth.

Posted by: Camilla | April 17, 2009

Which wealth profile are you?

I was fortunate enough to come across Roger Hamilton’s Wealth Dynamics work about 2 years ago and since discovering my wealth profile I’ve found it easier to get into my flow to help me reach my dreams and journey towards my path to financial freedom.  Remember, wealth is not just money.  In fact, Roger says that the best definition of wealth is what we have left when all our money is gone”.  That’s right, it’s our knowledge, our networks, our experience, our skills, our natural talents and everything else that we have that makes us truly wealthy.

Just think of Donald Trump, he lost all his money but he built his business empire up again.  This is true wealth.  He used his knowledge, skills, talents, experience, networks , passion etc and is once again financially free.

Have a look at the video of Roger explaining the 8 different profiles – they are just 8 and they can be applied to any industry.  In fact, we all have a little of each of them inside of us – you could put yourself in the middle of his model, but you will find that when you know your primary profile you ‘Get into your flow’.  This is the easiest path for you.

I am a creator.  I’m the person that sees things differently.  Always with an  idea of some sort – some of them great.  A big dreamer, head in the clouds type of person.  And I’m pretty crap at finishing things, which is why when I have all my idea’s it is so important for me to share them with people I trust.  I need people around me in my team to help me realise some of them.  I also have quite strong Mechanic and Star with a small amount of Deal Maker  in my profile too, however, I’m primarily a CREATOR!

So how does this help me in what I do?

Well, in my business I create workshops  and training material for myself and clients.  I create idea’s, I create my blog posts, I create articles,  I create desire, I create e-books, I create presentations, I create an environment where others feel safe to open up to me, I create solutions where others see none.

When I’m creating, I’m in my flow.  Time passes and before I know it hours have passed.  When I’m in my flow, I don’t feel like I’m working as I am loving what I’m doing.

When you know your profile and ‘Get into your flow’ you will notice how work becomes play – and who doesn’t love to be paid to play?

“Get paid to play”

Of course there are time’s when my work requires me to do other tasks that come more naturally to other profiles and I manage some of these: Mechanic – the process/logistics I need, Star – presenting, facilitating, training & speaking, Deal Maker – influencing, however, these require a little more effort from me.

The remainder of the profiles for me in varying degree’s may cause some stress for me in my daily work.  I can do them, but they do not come naturally. e.g. Trader – these folk are great at timing.  They know the markets intuitively like buying low and selling high.  My head is so in the clouds with idea’s that I will stay in ‘La la land’ instead of launching my service at the right time.

When you know your profile you can also find team members that can support you.  For me as a Creator, once I have my offering, I can have a mechanic in flow to sort out the logistics, a star in flow to shine its light on my offering, a supporter to lead the team, a deal maker to broker the deals, a trader to launch when the time is right, an accumulator for my customer retention and a lord to look after my cashflow.

Getting my profile done was one of the best investments I’ve made in myself.

Contact me if you’d like to know how you can get your profile done.

Heal Your Life Affirmations

Affirmations for positive change from Louise Hay’s Heal Your Life

Affirmations work best when:

  • They are written in the present tense
  • They are positive statements (no can’t, won’t, should etc)
  • You view them daily (read them, couple this with visualisation for more impact)
  • You repeat them daily (say them aloud to yourself)
  • You write them out in your own hand writing (Kinaesthetic connection)

In fact, why not choose a few that you like and write them out on project board and decorate them and pop them where you will see them – on your mirror, the inside of your clothes cupboard, on the bathroom wall that you face when brushing your teeth… wherever you spend a few minutes a day were you can see them)

In this wonderful clip Akeelah (Keke Palmer) reads the quote of “Our Deepest Fear”  in the movie Akeelah and the Bee.

How many times do you laugh a day?

Laughter relieves stress, lifts moods and a sense of humour is often listed as one of the top 5 attributes we look for in a partner.  Reports vary between how many times kids and adults laugh.  Kids laugh between 300 & 1000 times a day whereas, adults laugh less than 20 times a day.

And kids laugh about the simpliest things, here’s a video of my daughter with her uncle – such a simple activity brought so much joy to her day – watching them gave me the giggles and I felt so much lighter and full of energy.

Find something to humour you in your day and let’s find our inner child.

Are we April Fools?

It struck this this morning that April starts with April Fools day and it made me think, “Are we not fools when we do not action our dreams?”

What have you been dreaming of?
What dream have you put on the back burner for whatever reason?

Give yourself permission to be foolish and dream big – insanely big! …and write it down.

Now, write down 3 things you can do this month that will move you towards that big bodacious sexy dream.

And remember these words by Katherine Mansfield:

Risk! Risk anything! Care no more for the opinion of others, for those voices. Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself. Face the truth.

To a month of dreaming – have fun!

Quote: Pursuit of Happiness

Inspirational Quotes

I love this exchange between Christopher Gardner & his son Christopher in the movie The Pursuit of Happiness

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right?
Christopher: All right.
Christopher Gardner: You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.

Keep pursuing your dreams

Quote: following dreams

Inspirational Quote

“There were sages who spent their entire life searching for an answer that did not exist, but who were not tempted to invent an answer when they realised there was none. Instead, they carried on humbly inhabiting a Universe they would never understand. The only way they could truly participate was by following their own desires…dreams, because that is how man becomes an instrument of God.” - P. Coelho, Brida
